STEPHAN MCGUIRE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

We welcome Stephan, President and Founder of Coalition for a Sustainable Africa, a Producer with Tree Media Group and one of the Producers of the award winning documentary film The 11th Hour, narrated and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, as Executive Director of GAWA. Stephan's work with Tree Media, CSAfrica and in Hollywood with DiCaprio, as well as on such projects as Woody Harrelson's Voice Yourself, the 11th Hour Action campaign as well as projects for Global Green USA, the 2000 Presidential Campaign Library for the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as for California's Heal the Bay reflects his personal commitment to the improvement of both our planet's environment and Human Rights. In addition, this year he founded Green Town ACTION!, an American program documenting on-the-ground sustainable action in a ‘green’ YouTube’ type web portal to be launched in the Spring of 2009. Stephan is also a Producer on Leila Conners Petersen's follow-up to The 11th Hour, a hybrid documentary/narrative film Into Eden which will be exploring human consciousness.
As Executive Director of GAWA, Stephan will be spending most of 2009 implementing programs here in Namibia. Among these programms are "Green Zone Schools", Carbon Offsetting with GCX, the soon to be announced "South Africa Sustainable Living and Energy Conference & Expo" and an anti shopping bag campaign. All of these projects are officially mandated, sustainability programs, directly partnered with the Namibian American Embassy, Namibian Ministers including the Prime Minister, and large African corporations such as FNB and O&L,who are taking the lead in environmental awareness and action.
Stephan's appreciation of the Earth's ecosystems deepened with his studies in sustainable, earth-restorative farming and living practices called "Permaculture", both on the island of Hawaii and in Costa Rica, where he became a certified Permaculture Teacher. Permaculture techniques focus on making our communities healthy, culturally rich, and self-reliant models of integrated living. Stephan definitely sees his environmentalism as responsible stewardship of our beautiful planet.
