DUTCH TO FINANCE WIND PROJECT
DECEMBER 2008
WINDHOEK
Lev Leviev Construction has built its first state-of-the-art residential “Greenhouse” in Windhoek’s suburb of Cimbebasia. The house will be used to showcase the technology in Namibia.
LL Construction plans to invest N$1 billion into the construction of Greenhouses in Namibia. They are far cheaper than normal brick houses and are built from steel frames and other recyclable materials obtained in Namibia. Water use in the homes will be recycled.
The Greenhouses, which can be built in as little as a month, will have a lifespan of up to 200 years.
The major pilot project for the Greenhouses will start early in 2009 following an agreement with the City of Windhoek. About 2 000 low-cost Greenhouses will be built in Katutura. Each house will cover an area of between 65 and 85 square metres but can be extended if need be. Homes will be built on plots of 300 square metres at a cost of between N$300 000 and N$400 000.
After Kautura, the project will be rolled out in Ondangwa in the North, where 300 homes will be built.
